Sorry to keep you waiting, but the driver didn't show up until after 3. He then had to unload a new mustang GT something-or-other Shelby and proceeded to BEAT on it and did a little burn out. I was not very impressed to say the least!

My timing is impeccable on this...my camera battery ran out and is now charging. Here are the two pictures I got before it shut down.

OK, why can't I upload pictures. I resized it to make if smaller and it says too big? I tried this last night with truck pictures I tried to share and it did the same thing.

Sorry guys, I'm not trying to be mean, just got a little busy.

So the car was sold new in Hawaii, it's heater delete. It's not my typical style as you'll see in the pics. There are lots of go fast goodies and I'm still trying to figure it all out. It has after market gauges in place of the original gauge cluster, I think the seat is wrong, maybe Jeff can give me some insight on what a 66 440 2dr should have. I found an electric fuel pump plumbed into the original fuel tank. There is lots of fuel plumbing under the hood that I need to sort out. It will need tail pipes as the exhaust dumps out of the mufflers in front of the rear axle, but the fuel pump might be in the way.

It has steep gears (I think 3:91) which won't be good for cruising to shows. Originally 3:23. It also had a deep sump oil pan on both the engine and transmission. And a full reverse manual valve body. I not sure I like the oil pans as I'm too used to driving big trucks and ground clearance is never on my mind. I already have a valve body for it, the original instrument cluster, a steering wheel.

The car has quite a bit of rust typical of being near salt air. All easily fixed, but it's not on the agenda anytime soon.

I'd like to get the gears take car of, valve body changed out, and I'd really like to upgrade the may-stop single braking system to dual. Does anyone have a suggestion on getting gears? If I can find used, should I? I'm never scared of used...

OK here are some pics

There's a lot of things under the hood I still need to figure out.

theman440
08-21-2017, 11:55 PM
It's got a cool street racer vibe to it, I like it. Yes the seat is incorrect. 3:91's are a great go fast street gear, I had 'em in my '64 330. Not much fun on the freeway though. Please get rid of that steering wheel! What's under the hood?

crlush

By the way Rich, they are repoping the 1966 plastic two spoke steering wheels in several of the original factory colors if you want to go that route. Nobody is making the 1966 two spoke full horn ring, but I see nice ones for sale on Ebay all of the time, so no issues there.

You figured it out?

ws27
08-22-2017, 04:24 PM
Richard, I have to look through boxes the seller sent me. There may already be a steering wheel. If not, I'll go for a new one. The dash is going to be interesting.

I'm not liking the scoop because the paint on it is horrible, and they never cut a hole in the hood. So I might just pull if off and leave the little holes.

For now, I have a few other projects to finish. I'll try to share my engine job that has 1450 FT/LBS of torque when I have a moment!

ws27
08-22-2017, 04:26 PM
My problem with the gearing is that I'd hate to hurt such low mileage hemi by over revving it on a long highway trip. Most of my car shows are an hour away.

I agree, I should enjoy it a bit first.

Funny thing, a friend of mine told me to make sure I take him out before I change the gears! LOL

ws27
08-22-2017, 07:52 PM
Jeff, it is a real one. It was $3300.00 in total from Honolulu to Mass. I thought that wasn't too bad.

I didn't need anyone to check it out because I bought it from a friend that I could trust 100%. I had been talking to him about it from the moment he bought it for himself. He kind of lost storage for it recently, but also is buying a Demon so it became a double whammy for him. He also didn't want it to go to just anyone. So what does one do when they want a 66 or 67 Coronet to go to a good home, call Rich!:)

My friend bought it from the second owner.

The first kept it stock and only put about 2000 miles on it. The second modified it for racing, and I suppose was using a track, although I think it came from a different island than where my friend is from. My friend is the third and sort of lost storage, but more importantly is getting a Demon, so he decided this one needed to go.

Funny, the shipping distance is about half of it's total mileage.

Do they have a drag strip in Hawaii?

My family and I just got back from hawaii (o'ahu island) they had a dragstrip but it was closed some years ago, saw something on tv while I was there about a bunch of people lobbying to let them open another one. I googled dragstrips in Hawaii and it looks like the other islands have one, unless they were recently closed.

ws27
08-25-2017, 05:14 PM
I'll look up which island this car came from originally and see if there is one there.

Now I'm thinking I really should see what it can do before I change out the gears. Maybe I should look into when N.E. Dragway has amateur night.

There is a drag strip still in operation in Kauai.http://www.dodgecoronet.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=11100&stc=1

I see you've been there too. It's an old abandoned air strip on the west side of the island near Kekaha and PMRF. I've been working occasionally at PMRF for the last 30 years and drive past that strip on the way to work. Its just about the only place on the island where you can get above 35 to 40 mph legally. (I do know of one other place, but its not legal!)

Thanks Joe! What make me a little scared is that the previous owner drove it on the freeway for the first time and we think he overheated the transmission. It spewed trans fluid out the bell housing. So he had the radiator re-cored, new trans cooler, and resealed the transmission.

I will be taking it out and driving it before I do anything. Just waiting to get it registered.

If the trans was overfilled it would foam up and spew fluid out of the breather vent in the bellhousing and cause the trans to over heat.

Thanks Joe, the guy who I bought it from is a real true gear head, so I'm pretty comfortable he didn't miss that. We all make mistakes though. I just can't wait to register it!

Nothing...

I can't drive it in the winter, and am too busy. It's sitting under the blue car for now.

I agree Rich, snow, ice and winter weather is NOT a good idea to drive any older Mopar in, let alone a HEMI powered vintage Mopar! Now if you were out west here with Andy and me, you could drive it almost year round! :D

By the way, I haven't forgotten our phone conversation, still looking my friend. ;)

Thanks Richard. Believe me when I say this. I HATE the winters here. The only reason I stay is because of my business, I'm spoiled with great customers and will never recreate that anywhere else before I retire.

... Not that I'm planning on retiring soon!

You'd just do a lot less heating work and a lot more a/c work Rich! ;)

Shoot Rich, it only gets over a 120 degrees a few days during the summer months and the rest of the summer is only around 115 to 120, so ANY Hemi owner should be able to handle that here in Arizona and when that Hemi is running you wouldn't even notice the earthquakes that Andy gets once in awhile in California! LOL!

It's funny how we all love to complain about where we live (at least some of us). But I really have to say that here in New England there is not much life threatening to worry about. We don't have earthquakes, massive forest fires, scorpions, black widows, tarantulas!!!, or any other small things to be afraid of. Most really bad creatures can't survive the cold. Even our bears are herbivores! Just don't get in between mam bear and her cubs!

If you live in Arizona at around 5000-6000 feet it is a different place. I can't think of anything to complain about other than maybe wind in the spring. Maybe 5 days over 100 and maybe 20 over 90. A few days below 20 at night in the winter and a couple of snows a year that are gone by noon. No traffic, no crowds, but unfortunately not many Mopars either!
