awesome - great job! What color blue is that?

Its from a 2008 Dodge truck.
I tried going to the paint shop and picking a color. The sample squares are too small to make an informed decision so I went to a used car lot to find the color I wanted.

That's the smartest way to pick your color.

I had a friend go pick colors for his Mustang, somehow he chose this god awful color. Found out later he was color blind.

The first coat is a little darker than the final color. Once they add a few coats and some clear it will brighten back up to this.

they expect to finish paint in the next few days. A few more coats on the body and then the hood, front clip and trunk.

I think so. Not 100% sure though. I am going to go triple color (blue/white/black) and see how it looks. I have a plan to bail and repaint if i hate it. I am still collecting pieces of the interior and matching the whites. I wont know until i see it all in the same place, in person.

Thanks - Its really nice to see the old car get transformed into something shiny again. The shop has had it for nearly 6 months but they have really put a lot of work into it and been a pleasure to deal with. It is their first classic and they have really been impressive with their attention to detail. There has been a few times that i thought they were "done" with the bodywork on the car, only to come back the following week and find they are redoing an area because it wasn't quite perfect to them. of course, it looked great to me the first time. So far I have not seen any waves or missed areas.

the white top is not original to this car, and I am not sure if the factory had the option. I was forced to change my paint color after Richard posted some ridiculously nice photos of a blue/white 66. He cost me a lot of money.... :)

[QUOTE=theman440;5575]It's a White Hat Special![/Q
Jeff, the white hat special was an option package. I don't know the numbers on the build sheet, but I can give you an idea of what came on it. Some of these options may have varied on different models/body styles and location too. The white hat special had at least a vinyl top (not necessarily white) full vinyl seat covers, full horn ring (actually 64 Polara), fender mounted turn signal indicators, bumper guards, and maybe some other things I can't think of right now.

theman440
04-20-2013, 01:15 PM
I thought all the White Hat Specials were painted roofs.

ws27
04-20-2013, 10:53 PM
A painted roof was just an option, and a rare one at that.

Per Mr. Galen Govier's "Chrysler Corporation Production Option Code Book - 1966-1968" (White Reference Book), here are all of the White Hat Special packages offered by Chrysler in the 1967 and 1968 model years.

Factory code #: 350
Model years offered: 1967 and 1968
Description: White Hat Special with vinyl roof.
Options included in package: wheel lip moldings, wheel covers, body belt moldings, white sidewall tires, front and rear bumper guards, fender mounted turn signals, vinyl roof.

Factory code #: 352
Model year offered: 1968
Description: Dodge White Hat Special with vinyl roof.
Options included in package: wheel lip moldings, body belt moldings, wheel covers, full horn ring steering wheel, front and rear bumper guards, fender mounted turn signals, 7.35 x 14" white sidewall tires, vinyl roof.

Factory code #: 354
Model year offered: 1968
Description: Dodge White Hat Special less vinyl roof.
Options included in package: wheel lip moldings, body belt moldings, wheel covers, full horn ring steering wheel, front and rear bumper guards, fender mounted turn signals, 7.35 x 14" white sidewall tires.

Factory code #: 361
Model year offered: 1968
Description: White Hat Special Package A
Options included in package: fender mounted turn signals, wheel covers, wheel opening moldings, front and rear bumper guards, left hand remote control mirror, body sill moldings, vinyl roof.

Factory code #: 364
Model years: 1968
Description: White Hat Special Package B
Options included in package: fender mounted turn signals, wheel covers, wheel opening moldings, front and rear bumper guards, left hand remote control mirror, body sill moldings.

None of the above White Hat Special packages mention a painted roof as part of the package, but it's also interesting why Chrysler would offer a package like this without a White vinyl top, so maybe the buyer could have ordered the painted White top instead of the White vinyl top as part of package codes #354 and #364?

LOL, I know EXACTLY how you feel, my silver car is just a shell, been that way for about 4 or 5 years. Long enough for the hood to get a chip and need to be repainted. When I finally get it fixed and back, I have not idea where to start either.

One suggestion if you need the encouragement is to put on some trim that makes the car look more complete. Do a few easy things to get yourself going. Once you get into it, you'll keep going..that is until you run out of money!!!
