Dave Hanes is 21 year old mopar fanatic, and is a full time student at Penn State University. His car lives in a garage in St. Mary's, P.A. Dave's favorite mopar is no doubt a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner, 383 4speed. Mrs. Hanes, his mother, had one in the 70's and raced it. That car still exists about 25 miles from his house, and he someday hopes to "take a big wad of cash down and see if he'll sell!" If cars could speak, you would hear Dave Hanes' 1967 Dodge Coronet 440 screaming "Man, I'm pretty!" Dave's and his beautiful 1967 Coronet have a short history together, but the relationship between this young mopar fanatic and his car is very interesting. The Coronet still has its original stock 318 small block and 727 transmission, but Dave soon plans to swap it with a 383 big block he has been building to preserve his original 318. The sweet sound of his head-turning machine comes from his setup of dynomax super turbos with an h-pipe. For the future 383 our friend plans to convert to flowmasters dumped before the axle! Dave and his father purchased the car at Chryslers in Carlisle in 2000. They had been searching for months for a decent car that they could work on together, but wasn't a showroom piece. (I'd say these two sure did turn it into a show car!) This Coronet had the potential the two were searching for, so they drove it home during a 4 hour voyage in the rain, what luck! The Coronet was purchased from Beaver Hills, PA and Dave still has titles from his car dating back to the early 80's from all over the Pittsburgh area! Very cool! When Dave and his father had the car home they got right to working on the car together. It seems the car gods were having fun with Dave and his father, and within the first week a piece of aluminum foil found its way onto the wires and shorted out the starter, battery, alternator, starter relay and ballast! Tough Luck! After having the car for about 8 months, unfortunate news stopped the progress of the Coronet; Dave's father was diagnosed with cancer in March of 2001. But, at the end of that summer Dave got around to working on the car again. His father wanted to put dual exhaust on the car, so Dave gave his car the Dynomax Turbo exhaust upgrade and got around to fixing small things, like door handles! (It's always fun when you're driving and doors fly open!). That winter the car was put on hold and Dave started going back to school at Penn State University. Dave came home on weekends and spent time with his father, who passed away in December of 2002. During that hard time for Dave, only 92 miles were put on that car, which consisted mainly of driving it to the garage for the work he was doing. Currently, in April of '04 Dave has the car in tip-top shape and ready for Chryslers at Carlisle 2004! With recently added 6-ply 1 inch leaf springs, the Coronet is sitting very pretty. Dave has a personal website listing all the work he has done to his beautiful car, and many other cool automobiles. The site is a very interesting read, and can be found here: http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/d/a/dah963/coronet2.htm. Great Job Dave! Beautiful Car, we're happy to have you here! Everyone look out for Dave's car at Chryslers at Carlisle this year!
