Man, the sound of a really healthy big block Mopar and Black Sabbath playing at distorted sound levels on an 8-track tape deck...........growing up in the 60's and 70's was really fun! Rofl

Just my own personal opinion here which doesn't mean squat, but these old muscle cars are supposed to be loud and obnoxious, that's part of what makes them so much fun! Nothing more fun that pulling up next to someone in an import with an expensive sound system and drowning that sound system out with an even louder big block Mopar! Wink

I have to agree with olebrowndodge...... I run Thrush welded mufflers with 2.5" pipes. It sounds great just driving around, not too loud but a nice deep rumble, but when you hit it... WOW! just an awesome sound. I did a lot of research into the sound I wanted; I wanted the vintage 70's sound and these Thrush welded mufflers did it. Nothing sounds as good as a Mopar with the secondaries open. Best part is; they are not near as expensive as the flowmaster's but sound even better IMO. For a sample of the Thrush lineup and audio links to what each sounds like check this out: http://www.thrushexhaust.com/products.html

i have race 44 black flowmasters 2 1/2", true x-pipe, with shortie hedman headers ceramic, tail pipes out the back to under the rear bumper...and let me tell you the sound outside the car is awesome....especially on this little stock 273....sounds way bigger than it is, great tone.

inside the car? absolutely HATE IT HATE HATE IT. its the worse car ever i have had that resonates inside the car so bad you cant carry on a conversation with anyone at certain low speeds. its terrible, to the point it actually hurts your ears with the drone so bad....with all the windows down its not to bad but still there, roll em up and you cant stand it.

im all about some loud exhaust to, ive had flowmasters on just about everything ive owned and this car is the worlds worse....
keep that in mind.

my coronet/440 has 2" tti headers into 3" pipes, h-pipe and dynomax ultraflow mufflers. there is no resonance/droning and its not to loud in the car. my dart/400 has hedman headers(not sure of the size) w/ 2.5" pipes w/x-pipe and pypes race pro mufflers. there is a little resonance at off idle while cruising slow but that's the only bad part.

I'm happy with my Summit 2.5" system with turbo mufflers. Happily drove it almost 800 miles in one extended weekend road trip to NJ.
Not to get off subject but do you have sound deadener? It goes a long way in cancelling the drone inside the car.

My '66 Poly has fairly hefty pipes ( 2 1/2 - 3" - not sure) that were on the car when I got it. The mufflers "look like" Flowmasters but, again, not sure, exhaust tips turn down beneath the bumper. Great sound at idle but it really resonates inside in the low to mid range. Oddly enough, when I hit 50 MPH, it quiets right down. Anybody have any experience with crossover pipes? I've heard that a crossover might cut down the resonance and maybe even help performance a bit. I've got a pretty good local muffler shop that could fab one up in short order for not a lot of $$. My shop manual only shows a crossover on the hemi models.
