Vintage Power Window Systems?

Rich- been collecting for years up here for all types of power window stuff too. most times you can find a old c-body power window wiring and get it to work as it's close with a few mods. yes- that early master sw. is hard to find in any condtion!!
I have a real nice one for when I put them in the 68 vert!!!!! 1k for a non complete wiring is outta this world- maybe for a 100% harness and switches with the regs would be about right!!!!!!

Yes sir my friend, but vintage used electrical parts are always a huge gamble and even if you can find a '66-'68 B or C-Body power window wiring harness or other related parts, they are usually in the same or worse condition than the parts you're trying to replace on your car! :p The last used "complete" power window system that I saw on Ebay was out of a 1967 GTX and it had STARTING bidding price of $2500.00! After I woke up after I passed out after seeing that opening price, I quickly clicked off of the auction before I did any more damage to myself!

I've even asked some folks that I know and deal with that reproduce parts for our older Mopars if they would consider reproducing parts for these power window systems and after they stop laughing, I usually hear a dial tone................

Yep, that picture was taken many years ago with one of those lousy point, click and get the pictures developed at the store kind of a 35mm film camera! :p If you'd like, I could take my nice Cannon digital camera outside on a nice sunny day and re-shoot that picture for you!

the master I picked up was like new- switches where tight and not floppy!!!!

yup on harnesses- but if your handi- you can make them work cause as what's out there is beyond what we can afford!!!!!

so when I see them at a swap meet or auto flea market- I buy them cause they haven't made them for over 30 years!!!

I really wish I could get spares for my 'leccy windows too. Mine are in great condition as you can see. But yesterday I had a small issue with the rear passenger quarter window. It would not go up or down. It was really hot and I had the car parked in teh sun for a few hours. After it cooled down it worked again. I wonder if the circuit just got hot? Anyone had this problem before?

Hello Tek,

I can't say for sure what happened to your quarter window assembly, but I can say that I doubt that the warm weather caused the issue. If that were the case I'm in REAL trouble here in Phoenix AZ where summer temps average well over 100 degrees for months at a time!

You didn't mention if you had this issue at your master 4 gang switch on the drivers door, or the single gang switch at the quarter window, but which ever switch it is, I'd start planning on looking at that switch to make sure it's contacts are clean where the switch plugs into the wiring harness connector and check to see if all of the switch pins are in good condition and tight. Also check to see if you have any exposed wiring that could be shorting out on the inner door, or inner quarter panel sheet metal where the harness passes through to the switch.



The other location where you will find connectors for the power window wiring harness is behind the drivers side kick panel.



If the switch is getting excessively warm, it's building up resistance and will eventually cause the switch to fail and as I've mentioned in my previous posts, there are no aftermarket parts to repair the '66, '67 and '68 switches.

I had the problem at the 4 gang switch and then also at the window in questions' switch too.

The last few days everything is fine.

So here is a little more info.

At the time I tried to raise the quarter window I basically did what I normally do, raise BOTH quarters at the same time, then I would have raised BOTH front windows. Now my wife was in the car and she tried to raise her front window at the same time as I was trying to raise the quarters. I wonder if this is too much load?

I have planned to take the door cards off soon as I am putting in sound/heat deadener. SO I will inspect each switch and make sure connections are clean and making correct contact.



As for the ladies causing the problems..This is a high probability but if I am honest, it's a great problem to have!

Tek- quite possible. the 30 amp circuit breakers do get weak over time/use. same as wiring and switches- but most times the motors grease in the gears dryout and cause it to be use more stress- thus amps go up causing issues. the other cause is binding glass in the door and dried out lube in the channels too!!
