My "NEW" 1967 Coronet R/T (maybe)
#1
Well here is a quick shot of the 1967 Coronet I picked up last weekend. It may be an original R/T car, or it may not be. The car was issued a new VIN by the state police many years ago and the fender tag/door plate/etc were all removed or changed to new ones. Can't find a Certicard or build sheet in the car (I'm sure anything is long gone after 47 years and the police going through it).

Also, the car has a 383 in it, so that adds to the mystery even more. So it could be an R/T with a 383 dropped in or a base Coronet that someone went to a lot of trouble to turn into an R/T. It has all the interior appointments (speedo and door emblems), the heavier suspension components, the exterior badging, the proper taillight panel and front grill pieces, as well as the proper hood and it looks like no side trim was ever on it, though the body is far from perfect so there is no way to judge if it had lots of bodywork.

Either way, I didnt pay much for it and it made a 3 hour ride home with some NYC traffic without overheating or breaking down. It has at least a leak or two by looking at the undercarriage, but everything seems solid with nothing that some POR-15 wont take care of. Some of the engine brackets for the alternator and power steering are "homemade" but I will replace them out.

Nice looking ride, and you still have time to enjoy it before Winter sets in.

What does everyone on this board stalk craigslist for Coronets? LOL

For what I paid and what is has done it's a solid deal.

It has stuff added and whatnot so I'll post a pic tomorrow but I don't think it'll be helpful in determining much of anything.

Yea, we all stalk Craigslist for theft recovery R/T's... it's our sole purpose of existing..

Welcome, that's a nice RT.

Our humor is rather unique, and we never insult nor get insulted. We love Coronets, ok, and maybe some other cars too...

If you want a hand to determine if it was an original RT, I'd be happy to help you out. There won't be any concrete number proof, but checking out panels and holes will tell you what the car went through.

Either way, it's still a sweet car.

Well, it would be nice to know what I really have. Hell, if it looks very likely that its a real R/T it would probably motivate me to find a 67 440 block eventually and make it "right"

First order of business once I get the leaks and carb adjustment addressed is to deal with bulletproofing the ammmeter or completely eliminating it from the wiring.

I guess I'm a little stupied, why would a car be issued another VIN#??
Objects quickly DISAPPEAR in the rearview mirror and PLEASE stay seated until the ride comes to a complete stop!!
