Thanks to the great advice of 69Coronetrt, the Hamtramck web site has tons of very original information. I have posted some 'dealer basic' pages describing the engines for a 1969 Coronet. It is here that I see a description for the 383 four barrel and the 383 four barrel magnum. It makes reference to high lift, high performance cam shaft as well as a windage tray for the magnum engine. 'Hate to ask this but what is a windage tray?
Hope the pictures are useful.
And thanks again to 69Coronetrt for al the great descriptions and answers.
Also, how cool is all this stuff about folks finding cars one number apart - lots of fun.
A windage tray is a thin piece of metal that goes between the block and the oil pan and shields the crank from oil in the pan splashing up against the crank and causing drag on the crank.

It was my understanding, it increased HP by 5-7!!
Objects quickly DISAPPEAR in the rearview mirror and PLEASE stay seated until the ride comes to a complete stop!!
Has anyone installed a windage tray into an engine that did not come wit a stock tray? If so, any advice as to technique? worth while? things to make sure of? Things to make sure not to do?
Thanks Racer Brown for the HP estimate, and 69CoronetRT for the description of what a windage tray is.

Thanks Racer Brown for the HP estimate, and 69CoronetRT for the description of what a windage tray is.
It just goes between the oil pan and the pan rail/ block. In other words remove the oil pan and old gasket. Glue new gasket to the oil pan, lay the windage tray on top of the oil pan. Glue the second oil pan gasket to the windage tray, and install back on the engine.
If your friend Jack helped you off a horse....... Would you help your friend Jack off a horse?

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone has a picture of a stock valve cover breather cap for a 1969 Coronet 383 High Performance engine; 4 barrel with dual air filter intakes. Any idea of the part number? This breather cap would have the vent tube out the side and may very well say "oil" across the top.
Thanks in advance if anyone has any information.

Not the best picture but it will give you an idea. I have seen both chrome and 'painted' breather caps. I've seen chrome on the performance cars (383 HP Super Bees and 440 R/Ts) I've seen painted caps on 383 330 horse cars like Chargers, Coronets and Belvederes. My theory is the 383HP and 440HP cars were supposed to get chrome but I don't know that I've ever seen a source that confirms this. Let me know if you need or want a chrome breather cap. I picked up an extra one at a swap meet for a cheap price just to have in situations like this.
