Well the driver side is a little less rusted and I started making a patch panel for the repair. I also took some measurements of the gas pedal mounting position for later. More to come.

Today I'm working on the driver side sail panel where the chrome accent goes because I want to put them back on if I can fint them. So I cut out the rust an made a patch panel to weld in. I will finish up tomorrow. If anyone has those chrome pieces pictured please PM me with a price. Thanks Ken

Thanks for the info, I'll check them out.
Wow bea parts wants $155.00 a set, not in the budget. I'll have to wait until I can find some used.

You need more heat in those welds - those would be considered cold welds. What kind of welder are you using?

When you are welding the holes to the structure below, you want pretty good heat. You start your weld in the center of the hole and then use circular motion to go around the hole. Makes a very nice and strong weld and does not burn through.

Thanks for the info markz, I tried to use it on the high setting but the low setting seems to wok better. It's a Harbor freight special. I'm used to stick welding. This is my first wire welding project.

Most people don't realize that you control heat (penetration) more with the speed control than the voltage control. Set the voltage to what the manufacturer recommends, and then adjust the speed setting for proper penetration (heat). I have 2 good Lincolns, and I can usually take to the bank the settings that Lincoln recommends. Sometimes I need to tweak them a little, depending on what I am welding.

Thanks again markz I'll try and adjust the speed a little faster and see how that works. I was worried that if I had to much wire speed it would push thru the puddle.
