Steering Column Length

On my 68 Charger I took out the steering column and it was collapsed, the nylon shear pins came out (which set the length of the shaft).

I need to figure out how to get this thing to its original length, any ideas on the length it needs to be or does anyone have one that isn't collapsed?

The shaft on the left is collapsible in case of an accident. I can move it pretty easily by just tapping it.

What I think needs to be done is set it at the correct length, then either tack or JB Weld it so it holds but would still be able to break loose if the car hits something.

The measurement I can get wouldn't help at all in that situation.

Well the car was never hit, I think I collapsed it by accident

Can you see where dirty area stops when you extend? that would get you real close

The bottom part is compressed so maybe Mike could get a measurement from outer housing to dimple used to measure for coupler setting?

Power Steering/column shift ...I swapped the column cover to a floor shift.

When I tried to put the wheel on I noticed the shaft keep sinking down (if that makes sense)
