No need to pull dash cluster out to test!!!!!
Driver side kick panel. Remove it.
Find wires with a connector.
Unplug it. It will be a 6 wire plug with only 5 wires in it.
The wire of interest is the DARK BLUE!

Use a jumper. Touch the uphill blue wire to any good ground.
Turn key to run. Don't start!!
The gas gauge should peg to full.

Turn off key. Remove jumper.
What were the results?
Yes it pegged! That's good!
Nothing happened? That's bad!

If nothing happened? Cluster has to come out! Easy does it! Lower colum first. Disconnect battery!!!
Be carefull. Take pictures.. Go slow.

Okay. Either the gauge is bad? The mother board is bad? The limiter is bad? Or a combo of all 3.

If it pegged? The problem is the sending unit. It's wire? Or it's ground is missing. Or a combo of the 3.

Good luck.
I've been down this road. I fixed mine!

Additional info.
The pal nuts that tighten the gauge to the mother board could be loose or missing.
The pin... On the circle of pins that the harness plugs into is cracked or broken.. That's BAD. Buy new mother board!
To test the gauge itself? Not totally sure?
Worst case? New gauge and mother board from classic industries. Buy it! Be done with it!

awesome thanks...
I think my resistor/capacitor thingy is good because my volts gauge works.
ive already got half the dash out anyways because im changing radios, running speaker wires, half the interior is out, mounting rear speaker and front speaker etc....might as well do it all at once eh? .... Smile

Dash amp meter is a thing onto itself.
Only two related are gas and temp.
If I remember? Your temp worked?
Wish you would have done that test before you removed dash cluster.
Short of replacing the board and gauge as a set?
Your gonna be reliving the pain in the ass it takes to get that cluster in! It's easy taking it out!
I'm feeling your pain in advance!

yes I meant my temp gauge works so I think my resistor is good..
checked gauge last night with the plug behind the drivers kickpanel and it pegged the gauge...when I grounded it.
so I think its back to the gas tank and check stuff back there...

Once this problem is resolved, I'll archive it so we don't lose it at the bottom of the post pile
I love Mopars so much I'm date coding the skid marks in my underwear.
